Arkel was awarded a 2-phase campus upgrade for Our Lady of Mercy School. The campus's first phase included a 41,645 SF Lower School building and a 46,000 SF parking lot. The Lower School included the construction of a new building and renovations to an existing 14,200 SF building. The new construction included 16 new classrooms, a new library, a multi-use space, and additional offices for administration. The renovations consisted of upgrading seven classrooms with new flooring, painting, and counter tops. Additionally, to tie the new and existing buildings together, a new playground area was constructed between the buildings, which is fully covered by artificial turf and has three new playground equipment structures.
The 2nd phase of the campus was a 15,243-square-foot gym that consisted of a precast concrete wall structure with a structural steel-framed roof. The entrance to the gym is highlighted by a floor-to-ceiling, 2-story curtain wall system, which brings you into a lobby with poured terrazzo flooring that incorporates the school logo. Once you walk through the lobby, you enter a 9,000-square-foot maple wood court with a 500-person retractable bleacher. The court can be divided into 2 side courts by a ceiling-mounted retractable curtain. Other features of the gym include two locker rooms, a coach’s office, and a snack bar.
