project info

The Total Petrochemicals Control Center in Carville, LA, was a 11,000-square-foot blast-resistant building that houses the new control room and laboratory for the site. The building has a steel skeleton with poured CMU walls and a concrete roof deck. The building also includes a locker room, office space, a breakroom, and a state-of-the-art conference room. The control room has access flooring, acoustical panels, and a lighting system that allows the room to maintain low light levels to support monitoring of the systems by the room's operators. We used an open ceiling concept in the lab area, with all utilities being supported by a custom Unistrut grid system. The HVAC system for the building was engineered to be redundant, and the building has a backup generator on an automatic transfer switch, which allows the building to remain functional in a power outage. Epoxy flooring was used in the lab area to provide a durable flooring system that wouldn’t be damaged by the chemicals in the lab. The finishes throughout the building are high-end and provide the building with a modern feel. The project is currently on track to wrap up within the tight 10-month schedule with zero recordables to date.
